Wenger Wants Rice To Stay But Knee Problems May Force Retirement

Arsene and Patrice

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he wants Pat Rice to sign a new deal as his Assistant at Arsenal, yet dodgy knees may cause retirement.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Rice’s future with many suggesting that Arsenal would benefit from a back room shake up, yet Wenger is adamant that he wants Rice to continue his role at the club.

“I am looking to tie him down,” said Wenger.

“Will it be difficult, I don’t know? As at the moment we are only worried about short-term things.”

“If we need a change it is certainly not Pat Rice.”

Whether Rice will continue now seems a decision that only he will make as he has been struggling with knee problems making day-to-day training duties difficult.

If the condition of his knees get worse, which at the age of 62 is likely, Rice may be forced to call time on an Arsenal career that has spanned 44 years of service as player, Youth Team Coach and Assistant Manager.
