The Scout: Emilio Izaguirre

Arsenal had a scout at the Old Firm match at the weekend to watch Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre.

The Honduran international has had an impressive debut season at Celtic Park and is now on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

Arsenal’s scout was impressed with Izaguirre, who’s marauding play down the left flank was in evidence for Celtic’s second goal (1min in).

That Wenger is having a left-back watched is perhaps evidence that he is slightly concerned by the inconsistent form of Gael Clichy, and though he has Keiran Gibbs lying in wait, the young England player has a lot to learn defensively before being considered as first choice.

Izaguirre is a Honduran international who featured in last summer’s World Cup; a wing-back by trade for former club Motagua, Izaguirre has shown for Celtic that he is as capable off the ball as he is going forward (1:16 in).

According to reports Liverpool have also been looking at Izaguirre, who has 44 international caps and joined Celtic in the summer for £1million.
