Ramsey Set for Return
Aaron Ramsey is poised to return to the first team squad for tomorrow’s visit of Sunderland. The Welsh international returns from a successful month in his home town of Cardiff.
This represents good news for Arsenal fans on a number of levels. Firstly, it promises to be an emotional moment for a player who has been missing for more than a year. On a sporting level, Wenger will also be happy to have another option in midfield.
Injury concerns continue to mount so the return of a player who looked to be hitting his stride early last year will be a timely boost. Whilst Fabregas won’t be risked tomorrow, ahead of the Barca tie, our midfield is also without Alex Song who has a knee complaint.
Jack Wilshere has been sensational this season but still needs help from Denilson, Diaby and Rosicky who have all failed to consistently influence games when they’ve been included this term. The addition of Ramsey offers a fresh dimension.
We should be careful of expecting too much too soon from the young Welshman however, if he can regain the form that saw him vie for a regular first team place, prior to that evening in Stoke, he will push his competitors for a midfield berth very hard. Ramsey combines a competitive streak and a good engine with an accomplished range of passing and a genuine goal threat.
His brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest at the turn of the year was a welcome reintroduction to competitive Football but reports suggest that his time at Cardiff has seen him increase match fitness and regain some of the form that made him a favourite at Arsenal.
