Japanese wonder kid, Ryo Miyaichi is set to make his Arsenal debut in the Carling Cup tie against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

The 18-year-old impressed in pre-season and having been granted a work permit, Arsene Wenger is eager to give Ryo his first team debut.

The young winger made an immediate impact when on loan to Feyenoord last season, so much so that Feyenoord were desperate to sign Miyaichi on loan again this season.

This would have been a viable option had a work permit not been granted but the permit came through via the ‘exceptional talent’ exception ruling.

Arsenal signed Miyaichi in January – his first professional contract having only played school football in Japan – after he impressed during two pre-season matches the previous summer.

“Ryo has natural technical ability”, says Wenger. “He has good balance and phenomenal pace, and his passing and crossing is consistently of a high quality. He is a very exciting player.”
