Clichy To City Deal To Be Finalised Next Week
wearethenorthbank.com understands that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the sale of Gael Clichy.
The transfer will be finalised on Monday with the initial fee expected to be £7million that could rise to £10million with add-ons.
The France international was unwilling to agree a contract extension at Arsenal and with just a year left on Clichy’s contract, Arsene Wenger has decided to sell the player.
City have offered Clichy £90,000 a week, an increase of more than a third on his current £58,000 a week Arsenal contract.
Wenger has been aware of this situation for a while and has had his network of scouts looking for replacements all year.
Leighton Baines and Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre were watched on numerous occasions last season, though it is believed that Baines would be out of reach as Everton are unwilling to sell and Arsenal have other areas of the squad that they’re looking to strengthen within their finite transfer budget.
Newcastle’s José Enrique is Wenger’s top target.
