Arsenal will make a bid for Lille forward Gervinho this week.

wearethenorthbank.com understands that Gervinho will only sign for a Champions League club, seemingly ruling out Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

PSG have expressed an interest in the Ivory Coast international, but Ligue 1 Champions Lille will not sell to another French rival.

Gervinho began his career with ASEC Mimosas before signing his first professional contract with former Arsenal feeder club, Beveren, where he broke into the first team in 2005-06 – the season after Emmanuel Eboue departed for north London.

Arsenal centre back, Johan Djourou last week stated his admiration for Gervinho: “I have known him for a long time and he is just a great player,” said Djourou.

“Quick, with so much talent and good skills. He is a great, great talent and we need that because he can play as a striker, as a No.10 or on the wing.

“He has all the ingredients to play for Arsenal, that is a definite.”

Lille value Gervinho, 24, at £15million.
