Arsene Wenger has targeted Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic as a potential January transfer.

Arsenal sent a senior scout to Florence last weekend to watch the Montenegro international who impressed scoring two goals as Fiorentina drew 2-2 with Catania.

Jovetic, 21, has scored five goals in eight Serie A games this season having missed the whole of last season due to a cruciate knee ligament injury.

With the form of Marouanne Chamakh a huge concern, Arsenal are looking to strengthen in attack. They will also be without Gervinho in January as the Ivory Coast forward will be on international duty at the African Cup of Nations.

Jovetic played predominantly as a second striker or on the left wing prior to his injury but has also been utilised as a false nine this season to great effect, in a similar 4-2-3-1 system to the Gunners.

The former Partizan Belgrade man signed a contract extension until 2016 only last week, but that didn’t deter Wenger from having him watched, suggesting that Arsenal’s interest is serious and a move could be made in January.
