Arsenal Reopen Oxlade-Chamberlain Talks
Arsenal have reopened talks with Southampton about signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Gunners were close to signing the 17-year-old in January but Saints Chairman Nicola Cortese insisted on a 40 per cent sell-on clause and the deal subsequently fell through.
Arsenal agreed to pay £5million up front in January, with a further £5million via add-ons and incentives, but the two clubs could not agree on the sell-on clause.
The deal now hinges on the League One runners-up lowering their sell-on clause demands.
Talks have reopened between the two clubs this week but Cortese still wants any future deal for Chamberlain to include a generous sell-on percentage.
Arsenal are reluctant to agree to this and are exploring an alternative offer – by looking into the possibility of offering Southampton a player as part-exchange, either on loan or permanently – in a bid to get the deal finalised.
