Arsenal Keen On Charlton’s Jenkinson
Arsenal have been scouting Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson and will attempt to sign the Finland Under-19 International in the summer.
Arsene Wenger wants to strengthen the cover for Bacary Sagna as he has lost faith with Emmanuel Eboue as an option at right back.
Jenkinson, 19, has impressed since breaking into the Addicks first team this season and has also been watched by Manchester United.
The Harlow-born defender, who represented England at youth level, now plays for Finland under-19s as he has a Finnish mother.
Jenkinson, a product of Charlton’s Essex-based Brentwood Academy, is out of contract at the end of the season, but Charlton will offer him a new contract to safeguard against him leaving the club for nothing.
As Jenkinson is under 23 the League One club would be entitled to compensation or could take a club to tribunal if compensation is not offered.
There is also the possibility that Jenkinson could be signed by Arsenal and then loaned back to Charlton next season.
