Arsenal Continue Pursuit For New No.1
Arsenal are set to hit the summer transfer market for a goalkeeper.
Arsene Wenger has a shortlist of keepers that he will look to sign, in order to push Wojciech Szczesny – and possibly Luckasz Fabianski (who the club are considering offering a new contract) – for the number one jersey.
Despite dropping Szczesny, he is still part of Arsenal’s long-term plans but Wenger wants an accomplished goalkeeper to provide a challenge to the two Poles, and for them to learn from.
Arsenal require a keeper that not only has experience of winning silverware, but Premier League know how also and has turned his attention to Petr Cech.
With Thibaut Courtois set to push as Chelsea’s first choice next season, Arsenal feel they have the chance to sign Cech – although Roman Abramovich will likely be unwilling to sell to the Gunners.
Wenger has had Cech watched extensively of late as he aims to strengthen a position that has not been solid since Jens Lehmann departed in 2008.
I’m not saying that because we’re interested in him but I always liked him and rate as 1 of the best in the world. Always looking calm and assured in what he’s doing and my opinion won’t change even he we don’t sign him. Also I’m amazed that they could want to sell him as he can perform at the top level for some years still. With him, Fabianski and Szczesny it would seem like we won’t have any problems with this department for years. Only problem is to keep everybody happy.
Even if we don’t buy him I hope that Fabianski can rediscover the form he showed, for example against man city when we won 3 nil. I think in that season he played well not only this game. Still remember his save v wigan in league cup @ Emirates. Always rated him and hope he can finally show what he does in training. Not pretending to be an expert now on evidence of his last 2 performances.
It’s not a coincidence that every coach was saying he is very good and better then Szczesny.
