Arsenal Agree Personal Terms With Mustafi
Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Skhodran Mustafi as they look to finalise the signing of the German international from Valencia.
In today’s Super Deporte, the Valencia based sports newspaper claims that Mustafi’s father contacted Valencia to dispel any notion that the agent Ali Bulut (who was yesterday quoted by German Press saying personal terms had been agreed between Mustafi and Arsenal) looks after his son’s affairs.
Super Deporte also claim – without attributing direct quotes – that Mustafi Senior also said that they aren’t negotiating with Arsenal and that he isn’t even aware of any interest.
There is no truth in Mustafi Senior’s claims as this is an oft used tactic in transfer deals where agreements with player and buying club have been made prior to the clubs agreeing a transfer fee. A player’s representatives cannot be seen to be talking to a club prior to a transfer fee being agreed, and likewise with the buying club as they do not want to be seen to be ‘tapping up’ a player.
As reported on 3rd August, Arsenal are looking to sign Mustafi, especially as Per Mertesacker has been ruled out for 6 months, and with Gabriel now out of action for at least 8 weeks, Valencia will be well aware of cash-rich Arsenal’s further need to sign Mustafi.
The move should be completed by early next week, with personal terms agreed but both teams yet to agree on a fee, with Valencia wanting €40m and Arsenal wanting to deal at €30m.
